This interpretation of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s Venus in Fur seeks to draw the audience’s attention to themselves and to what lies between the lines written by the author. To move away from the numerous stereotypes about the phenomenon of human sexuality, about masochism as a flaw, about norms and taboos. And maybe to understand that to some extent everyone was the hero of this novel. In the performance, you will see the continuation of some fairy tales, find out what is meant after the phrase:
“…and they lived happily ever after”. Note: it is important for us to know whether they lived happily.
In the play, we raise the themes of codependency, melting, emptiness from loss and the inability to hear each other and understand the real self.
Using Severin as an example, we study the traumatic impact he received after breaking up with Vanda. The protagonist cannot survive the pain of loss and falls into a created, fictional world, a world of pain that destroys, but in his opinion, heals. In order to protect himself from the emptiness brought by the loss of his beloved, he is ready to endure pain. And to heal.
We invite you to go through this therapy together.
