The story of the last three years of the life and love of the outstanding artist Amedeo Modigliani, one of whose works is among the three most expensive paintings in the world, unfolds in our time, within the walls of a psychiatric hospital, in the imagination of a man who considers himself an absolute genius.

A collage of real and imaginary characters, a two-level artistic space of a stage-workshop with easels and hospital beds, a plastic solution from Olha Semioshkina, “live” music, art performances, painting in real time, as well as interesting facts from the life of an outstanding artist from an honored journalist Oleh Verhelis Ukraine complements the bold concept of the new theatrical experiment of the innovative director Rostyslav Derzhypilskyi.

The script is based on the idea of Mick Davis’ film “Modigliani” (2004), but the director of the production interprets it according to his own vision. The main character of the play considers himself Modigliani, in his imagination the ward of the psychiatric hospital turns into the art hall of the Academy of Arts, then into apartments, exhibition halls and streets of Paris, then into the bohemian cafe “Rotonda” – a meeting place of outstanding artists of the beginning of the 20th century, and the artists themselves – artists, poets, sculptors and playwrights – live only in his imagination. But there are also characters from real life in the play – this is his doctor, his wife’s parents and Jean herself – a woman who selflessly loves and desperately fights against his mental illness, which mercilessly robs her of the meaning of her life – her love – her husband…
